Windsurf Wave 6 Adds One-Click Deploys, Enterprise Features & IDE Improvements
Windsurf has rolled out Wave 6, introducing a suite of updates headlined by a major new capability: Deploys. This feature aims to streamline the AI-assisted application development lifecycle directly within the IDE.
Key Features in Wave 6:
Deploys (Beta): The standout feature allows users to package and deploy Windsurf-built websites or Javascript web apps to a public URL with a single click.
- Integration: Currently integrates with Netlify for deployment.
- Workflow: Completes the cycle from local development (using Previews) to public sharing.
- Claiming: Users can claim deployed sites to their personal Netlify accounts for further customization and management. Unclaimed sites are temporary.
- Availability: Requires code snippet telemetry to be enabled due to the need to upload code for deployment. Rate limits apply.
Enterprise Access Expanded: Previously introduced features like Model Context Protocols (MCPs), Turbo Mode, and Commit Message Generation are now available for Enterprise customers, complete with admin controls for organizational management.
Commit Message Generation: Users on paid plans can now generate descriptive commit messages summarizing the current code changes (diff) with a single button click, editable within the SCM sidebar.
Conversation Table of Contents: A new UX overlay in the Cascade chat interface makes it easier to navigate long conversations and revert to earlier points if the AI assistant goes off track.
Long Conversation Performance: Significant improvements have been made to reduce the degradation of response quality in lengthy Cascade chat sessions using checkpointing and summarization techniques.
Tab Improvements: The Tab code completion feature now incorporates user search context and works within Jupyter Notebooks in the Windsurf Editor. UI fixes and speedups were also implemented.
Miscellaneous Updates: Wave 6 includes support for Server-Side Events (SSE) in MCP, new editor icons, the ability to edit suggested terminal commands before execution, improved Memories retrieval, and various bug fixes.
The introduction of Deploys marks a significant step towards Windsurf's vision of an end-to-end application building experience managed entirely within the IDE, simplifying the process for both less experienced users and seasoned developers. Windsurf plans to expand provider options and refine the Deploys feature based on beta feedback.
